                    The economy of Europe in the 17 century

The crisis, causes: in 17 century  agriculture was  the main economic activity and suffer a big crisis due to:
  1. Wars: Areas were plundered and the worforce os the countryside decreased
  2. A lot of plagues and and epidemics reduce agricultural workforce
  3. Farmers migrate to the cities to avoid paid taxes  because they can´t pay them
  4. Agricultural techniques were outdate so the productivity was low
  5. There wear years of bad harvest  due to the weather
  6. This factors result in lower productivity and a increase in the prices: SUBSISTENCE CRISIS.
The recovery: in the 2 half of the 17 century the situation improve. This result in in an increase on the population . The causes of the recovery was: 
  1. There were fewer wars
  2.  There was a growth in colonial trade with the incorporation of English, France and Dutch traders: Some kings encouraged the founding of private trading companies so the coloniae expand                                     
  3.  The textil industry grow especially in England and Holand
  4. Monarcs implementing the mercantile system: a policy were the authorities had to increase the nº of precious metals wich enters in the country and to avoid from entening to other countries . To get this that had to proted national industries by taxing imposted pruducts
               The european society in te 17 century

2 different society:
  1. In the atlantic Protestants Europe burgoesi trades prosper due to the craft and trade industries and they got political positions because they were generating more wealth
  2. In Southern Catholic Europe the economy barely revory and the nobility and the clergy continued to reject the craft and trade industries and wanted to live industries and wanted to live off the rents they recived from their lands and possesions and acumulate tittles
The different social class: Society continued to be divided into prileged and non priviliged classes
  1. The nobility did not pay taxes they had political or military obligations, lived off their rents of their rents of their land wich werw worked by the peasants
  2. The haute burgoesi consisted of importants traders bankera high public officials . They continued to prosper and especially in England and Holland gained acces to political positions
  3. The petit burgoesi include artisan, small-scale traders and lauborers. Tjey had to pay taxes and were badly affected by crisis
  4. The peasants formed the majority of the population and their situation was very precarious, in the years of bad harvest they had to bey 
  5. The beggars who increased in number and had to depend pn charity to survive
Social revolts: These were several revolts due to several causes:
  1. Monarchs increased the taxes because the needed more resources in years of bad harvest that increase caused vioent revolts
  2. Political motives: For example in France because different sides wants the power
  3. Political mitives combined with religious rivalries in the British Islands
  4. Ethnic division in Rusia
