DEFINITION: It’s an 18th century intelectual movement that Believed in reason, science and knowledge, and proposed a new more liberal way Of organising society.

POLITICS: They opposed the separation of powers: Legislative, executive and judicial. Defended the idea of popular sovereignty And propposed the social contract and the creation of parlaments to limit Monarchs power.

ECONOMY: They opposed mercantilism, which was based on the Acumulation of precius metals, as the main source of wealth of the country. Defended agriculture as the source of national wealth.

SOCIETY: They opposed stratified society and argued that no One should inherit prestige or privilege, or be entitled to them because of Their ancestors. Defended social mobility, equality of origin and personal Merit.

SCIENCE AND ART: The art was neoclassicism.

ANCIEN REGIME:

DEFINITION: It was the political and social system of the Kingdom of France from the late middle ages until 1792, when heriditary Monarchy and the feudal system of french nobility were abolished by the French Revolution.

POLITICS: Predominate the absolute monarchy. The King had Absolute power: he issued laws, judges, ministers, justice and commanded army. The king’s power was limited and had to accept coronation, and king’s power Came directly from God.

ECONOMY: The main economic pólices were mercantilism and Manoralism. People practised subsistence farming in order to have enough food To live. Agriculture was the predominant activity and land was entailed, which Meant that can´t be bough or sold.

SOCIETY: It was divided into 3 states: clergy, nobility and Ordinary people. This stratified society was civic inequality. Clergy and Nobility did not have to pay taxes and have priviledges out peasants.

SCIENCE AND ART: The art was Rococo.
