The Korean War (First armed conflict in the Cold War)

When the allied troops withdrew from Korea, it was divided into two different countries:  capitalist (south) and communist (north)

In 1950, North Korea invaded South Korea and both countries were helped by their allies the Soviet Union and the United States.

  • With its end the initial situation returned.

This war had some characteristics of the conflicts of the Cold War:

  • There was no direct confrontation, there was no formal war declaration
  • It was a localized conflict in a concrete area.
