OVA FORMATION
Oogenesis  takes place in the ovaries: – Stage one: Female develop immature ova when they are embryos inside their mother womb. These ova are surrounded by cells called follicles. The ova stop developing until puberty. – Stage two: After puberty and until menopause, in cycles of approximately 28 days, one follicle grows and the ovum matures and leaves the ovary (ovulation). THE FORMATION OF SPERMATOZOA: SPERMATOGENESIS
• It occurs in the walls of seminiferous tubules that contain the germ cells that multiply themselves. • Spermatozoa move to the hole of the tube and mature. THE FEMALE REPRODUCTIVE SYSTEM :FUNCTIONS • Manufactures female gametes (ova). • Provides a place for fertilisation. • Allows the development of the new individual. • Produces sex hormones (oestrogenes and progesterone).PARTS • Ovaries: Glands that produce ova and sex hormones. • External genitalia (vulva): – Labia (majora and minora): Protect the urethra and vagina. – Clitoris: Provides pleasure.• Genital tracts: – Fallopian tubes: Connect the ovaries to the uterus. They catch the ova and transport it to the uterus: fertilisation takes place here. – Uterus or womb: Place where embryo develops. The inner part is the endometrium. – Cervix: Lower part of uterus that connect with the vagina. – Vagina: Elastic tube where spermatozoa are deposited.  OVA :• Are large spherical immobile cells which contain the hereditary information from the mother. • PARTS: – Nucleus: with genetic information. – Cytoplasm: With nutritional substances and three membranes: vitelline membrane, zona pellucida and corona radiata.  OVA FORMATION
