The first Spanish Bourbons (Philip V and Ferdinand VI) were inspired by the French model of centralised absolutism. They made important changes in the Spanish State structure. King: Holds all the power. Ministers (secretaries): assist the king. Directly appointed by the monarch. Cortes: rubberstamp the king’s decisions, merged into one for the entire kingdom. Medieval Ages: advisory council formed by the most important feudal lords . 12-15th century: Bourgeois in the Cortes. Can veto the King’s decisions. Some of it’s members advise the monarch.Catholic Kings: controls only the taxes. Imperial Cortes: rubberstamp the King’s decisions under strong Kings. Has more power under weak Kings (Philip IV)
