CELL THEORY

1. All living organisms are composedof one or more cells
2. Cells are the basic unit of structure and organization of all living organisms
3. Cells arise only from previously existing cells, whit cells passing copies of their genetic material on to their daugther cells

TYPES OF CELLS
prokaryotic: -no nucleus  - no membrane bound organeles   -cytoplasm bound by the plasma membrane
eukaryotic: -membrane bound organelles  -DNA in a nucleus that is bounded by a membranous nuclear envelope

 FUNCTION OF PLASMA MEMBRANE
1. It separates the contents of the cell from its outside environment and it regulates what enters and exits the cell                                                     2. The lipid bilayer is semi-permeable, which allows only selected molecules to diffuse across the membrane
MICROSCOPE TECHNOLOGY
compound light microscope:- uses a visible light  to produce magnified image, the maximum magnification without blurring is around 1000X
electron microscope:- uses magnets to aim a beam of electrons at thin slices of cells, electrons are passed, or transmitted, through a specimen to a fliorescent screen, only nonlivin cells and tissues can be observed
