STRUCTURE

. Narrador.Destaca split between copyright and the use of the technique of "manuscript found," Cervantes lineage. This feature allows a storyteller Unamuno put between himself and the reader and all we get from the viewpoint of Angela. Ii. External Structure novel is divided into 25 fragments which call sequences. The first 24 sequences are the story of Angela, the latter is a kind of epilogue by the author. Iii. Internal structure If we look at history unfold, one can distinguish three parts, followed by an epilogue by the author.

Sequences 1-8 are preliminary news about Don Manuel, conveys that Angela hearsay or based on certain notes of his brother.

Sequences 9-20: It is the central body of the story, from Angela's return to town first, and Lazarus, after. This narrative is given a new impetus that leads to the discovery of the secret of "saint." This part ends with the death of the priest.

Sequences 21-24: End of the story of Angela
Sequence 25: Epilogue the author

A particular issue within the internal structure is time. In line with the reading will be watching all those annotations which gives us the idea of passing years, in particular those relating to the age of Angela. Furthermore, among other things, is curious to note the existence of some elliptical narratives or jumps in time.

Outreach

The novel revolves around the great obsessions Unamuno: immortality and faith. But now faced with a new focus on it: the choice between a truly tragic and illusory happiness. And Unamuno seems now choose the second, quite the opposite of what they would do existentialists like Sartre and Camus. So when Lazarus says: "Truth First" Manuel replied: "With not live my truth." He wants to make people happy: "That dream is immortal." And only religions, he said, "comforted by having to be born to die."

Even Lazarus discourages work for social betterment of the people, saying: "Do not you think that the general welfare will emerge stronger the tedium of life? Yes, I know that one of the leaders of the social revolution that llamn has said that religion is the opium of the people. ... ... Opio Opio Opio, yes. Let's opium, and sleep and dream. "

Accordingly, the author would be diametrically away not only the social ideals of his youth, but also of the Unamuno who wanted to "raise awareness", which had said that "peace is a lie" that "the truth is before the Peace.

Furthermore, San Manuel is also the novel of self-denial and love of neighbor. Very Unamuno paradox: just a man without faith or hope he becomes an example of charity.

On the other hand there remains the problem of salvation. The focus of the issue is complex because of the ambiguity that introduces the split between author (Unamuno) and narrator (Angela). According to Angela, "Don Manuel and Lazaro died believing not believe what most concerns us, but believe it without believing, believing ...". As paradoxical character-narrator, "were shared by Unamuno-author? The question remains open. True, Unamuno, in the epilogue takes the floor and in their final reflections, could be a willful commitment to hope. But it is a point that remains open to discussion.
